Loïc Topalian’s practice focuses on international arbitration and litigation.

He acts in commercial and investment arbitration proceedings under the rules of arbitration institutions (ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, etc.) or in ad hoc arbitrations in a variety of industrial sectors such as construction, energy, telecoms or defence.

Loïc is also frequently involved in commercial litigation before the French Courts, with a particular focus on disputes involving private international law issues and industrial disputes involving expert determination. Finally, he is regularly involved in arbitration-related Court proceedings, in particular in set aside and enforcement proceedings of arbitral awards before the French Courts.

  • Representing the insurer of a European defence company in an ad hoc arbitration against a West African State following the lack of payment of the balance of a contract for the supply and installation of coastal surveillance radars.
  • Representing a consortium of French and African public works companies against the project owner in an ICC arbitration and various enforcement proceedings before the domestic courts concerning the construction of a bulk and mineral port in a West African State.
  • Representing a major French public works group in an ICSID pre-arbitration against a West African State concerning the State’s failure to execute a construction project.
  • Representing an American investment fund in the annulment proceedings, before the Court of Appeal of Paris, of an ICSID arbitration award issued in a dispute relating to various investments made in an Eastern European State.
  • Representing a Korean sovereign wealth fund before the French Courts in the enforcement proceedings brought against it by West Asian investors regarding an investment arbitration award.
  • Representing more than 1,200 Nicaraguan nationals before the Court of Appeal of Paris in exequatur proceedings concerning a judgment rendered by a Central American Court.
  • Representing an American company, world leader in the design, construction and marketing of gas meters, in a dispute brought before the French and Italian Courts concerning defective products.
  • Representing a major French company mainly active in the supply of water, electricity and natural gas and in waste management, in the context of the enforcement of various decisions rendered by French Courts.
  • Representing a large French company mainly active in the supply of water, electricity and natural gas and in waste management, in the context of an expert determination relating to the corrosion of the heating network of a French city.
  • Representing the French subsidiary of an American group in the context of an expert determination relating to disorders in the lighting systems installed in the Lille metro stations.
